Vehicle stopped after overtaking, then rain of bullets started

According to the information, Chandranath Rath was returning from the assembly at around 10:20 pm and was going to his home in Michael Nagar. As soon as his SUV reached Dohariya area, a four-wheeler suddenly came in front and blocked the way. As soon as the car stopped, four attackers riding on two bikes quickly approached the car. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers opened indiscriminate fire at very close range directly targeting Chandranath Rath. The entire incident happened within a few seconds and the attackers fled from the spot.

Bullets hit chest and stomach, died before reaching hospital

In the firing, Chandranath Rath was hit by several bullets in the chest and stomach. His driver Budhadev Bera was also seriously injured. Local people immediately took both of them to the hospital, but doctors declared Rath dead. According to doctors, two bullets had passed through his chest, leaving no possibility of survival. The condition of the driver is still said to be critical.

Attackers seen in CCTV, suspicion of tampering with number plate

After the incident, police and forensic team surrounded the entire area. The investigating agencies are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby. In the initial investigation, the suspected attackers riding a bike were seen running away in the camera. Police have also seized the suspicious car which had stopped Rath’s vehicle. Officials say that the number plate of the car looks suspicious and there is a possibility of tampering.

After the incident, Suvendu Adhikari called it a well-planned conspiracy. They allege that the attackers carried out this incident after doing recce for several days. He said that Chandranath Rath was not only his colleague but also his most trusted companion for a long time. BJP leaders met the victim’s family and assured all possible help.
