Uncertainty Persists Over Us Iran Deal Trump Returns From Key White House Meeting Without Decision
New uncertainty has arisen amid ongoing diplomatic efforts regarding a possible agreement between America and Iran. US President Donald Trump did not take any final decision after an important meeting held at the White House, due to which the future of the proposed agreement between the two countries currently hangs in the balance.
According to the report of news agency AP (Associated Press), after a two-hour long high-level meeting held at the White House, President Trump left without announcing any decision. The report quoted a senior Trump administration official as saying that a possible agreement was discussed in the meeting, but no conclusion could be reached.
According to media reports, a preliminary draft agreement was recently agreed upon between US and Iran negotiators. Under this proposal, the fragile ceasefire implemented between the two sides was to be extended for 60 days, so that further talks could continue on Iran’s disputed nuclear program.
However, before finalizing the agreement, America has set some strict conditions, on which Iran has objections.
Before the meeting on Friday, President Trump had clarified on his social media platform Truth Social that for any agreement, Iran will have to accept some mandatory conditions.
Trump wrote that “Iran must admit that it will never develop a nuclear weapon or a nuclear bomb.” Apart from this, he also said that the Strait of Hormuz should be completely opened for international maritime traffic and all the mines laid in the sea should be removed.
The US administration also says that Iran will have to accept such an arrangement regarding its enriched uranium, so that America can ensure its monitoring and control.
According to sources, Trump will sign only that deal that meets his designated “red lines” and can effectively curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Meanwhile, US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has indicated that if an agreement is not reached, America will not shy away from adopting military options.
During the prestigious Shangri-La Dialogue conference held in Singapore, he said that the US is capable of resuming military action against Iran if necessary. “We are fully capable of responding again if the need arises. Our military reserves are adequate and we are in a state of complete readiness,” Hegseth said.
He also said President Trump wants to be patient and reach a deal that ensures Iran can never obtain a nuclear weapon.
On the other hand, Iran has expressed deep skepticism about American proposals and assurances. Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf wrote on the social media platform X that “we do not trust any guarantees or words, only concrete actions.”
He further said, “We will not take any action unless the other side takes action. We extract concessions not through talks but through missiles.”
Iran’s influential leader and former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohsen Rezaei also questioned Trump’s intentions. He alleged that America is pursuing other strategic objectives under the guise of talks. According to Razai, “The US President once again appears to be retreating from diplomacy. Maintaining the naval blockade and making excessive demands in negotiations shows that his real interest is not in an agreement.”
Analysts believe that talks between America and Iran have now reached a decisive point. On one hand, Washington wants strict control over the nuclear program, while on the other hand, Tehran seems unwilling to compromise its sovereignty and security interests.
Talks are continuing between the two countries regarding ceasefire extension and nuclear talks, but the current situation indicates that the deep gap of mistrust still persists. In such a situation, it will be clear in the coming days whether diplomacy moves forward or the tension once again increases in the direction of confrontation.
