Political rhetoric regarding the student movement and recent protests in the capital Delhi is continuously increasing. Amid protests by Congress and other opposition parties in support of students, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders accused the opposition of playing politics and distorting facts.
BJP MP Madan Rathod hit out at Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, saying, “The protest at Jantar Mantar was unnecessarily politicized. Those who suffered minor injuries during the protest were admitted to hospital. Investigation revealed that none of them were students.”
Such people were brought into the protest who had no connection with the NEET exam. This was only an attempt to create a political atmosphere and such activities affect the seriousness of democratic movements.”
Accusing the opposition of indulging in headline-grabbing politics, he said, “Congress and its allies only believe in creating ruckus rather than discussing real issues. Giving priority to protests rather than constructive debate in Parliament is not in line with democratic traditions.”
BJP MP Lakshmi Verma also criticized the Congress, saying, “In Parliament, every MP gets full opportunity to express his views under constitutional rights. If the opposition wants to raise questions on any issue, then Parliament is the most appropriate platform for it.”
The investigation into the matter on which the Congress is continuously protesting is already underway and the truth will come out after the investigation is completed.” He appealed to the opposition to wait for the investigation process and have a meaningful discussion in Parliament.
BJP MLA Sanjay Upadhyay in Maharashtra also raised questions on the strategy of Congress and the opposition. He said, “Congress itself is not succeeding in conveying its political message clearly to the public. The credibility of the opposition has continuously weakened and that is why efforts are being made to corner the central government through various movements. The public is not able to understand whether Congress is directly supporting these movements or indirectly taking them forward.”
Sanjay Upadhyay also expressed concern over the violence during the recent protests. “At some places, stones were pelted at police, government vehicles were damaged and several policemen were injured. The activities of some protesters were not in line with the spirit of democratic protest and such cases should be investigated impartially. There should be no place for violence or activities affecting law and order in any movement,” he alleged.
BJP MP Mayankbhai Nayak said, “Smooth functioning of Parliament is essential for democracy. Rahul Gandhi and the opposition are requested to present their views through discussion in the House instead of disrupting the proceedings of Parliament. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government do not shy away from discussion on any important issue, but for this, functioning of Parliament is necessary.”
A round of allegations and counter-allegations continues between political parties regarding the student movement and developments related to it. On one hand, the opposition is accusing the government of suppressing the voice of the students, while on the other hand, the BJP is accusing the opposition of giving political color to the movement and disrupting the proceedings of the Parliament.
