Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Lead Protest Near PM Modi’s Residence Over Paper Leaks; Several Leaders Detained

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Mallikarjun Kharge with several other congress leaders led a protest towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, escalating the Opposition’s campaign over examination paper leaks and the police action against student demonstrators.

Congress MPs and workers assembled near Kharge’s residence at Rajaji Marg before marching towards Lok Kalyan Marg, where the Prime Minister’s official residence is located. Police personnel were deployed in the area as the protesters raised slogans demanding accountability from the Centre.

Congress Condemns Police Action

The demonstration was organized a day after a youth-led march towards Parliament ended in violent clashes between protesters and security personnel.

Rahul Gandhi accused the government of failing to address repeated examination irregularities and demanded that Prime Minister Modi apologize to the students allegedly injured during the police action. Congress leaders also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protesters have been demanding reforms in the public examination system, action against those responsible for paper leaks and accountability from the Education Ministry.

Police and Protesters Trade Allegations

Organizers accused the police and Rapid Action Force of using batons and tear gas against students and young protesters during Monday’s march.

Delhi Police, however, alleged that sections of the crowd broke barricades, threw stones, damaged police vehicles and attacked personnel. Police claimed that 118 officers were injured, while reports said around 60 protesters were also hurt and more than 70 people were detained.

The confrontation has intensified political pressure on the Centre, with Opposition parties seeking a parliamentary discussion on examination leaks and the handling of the student agitation.
