License of 'Domino's Pizza' suspended

Violating the rules of the Food Safety Act has proved costly for well-known food stores. The Food and Drug Administration Department has suspended the food licenses of both Domino's Pizza and Jai Krishna Bakery till further orders. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the food vendors of the district due to this strict action.

Food Safety Officer Raviraj Dhabarde had conducted a surprise inspection of the stores of M/s Jubilant Food Works Limited (Domino's Pizza) and M/s Jai Krishna Bakery, MIDC, Wardha. During this inspection, required cleanliness was not found at both the places. It was also clearly seen that the Food Safety Act was being violated. After mistakes were found in the inspection, the then Assistant Commissioner (Food) of the Food and Drug Administration, P.B. Topley had issued a 'rectification notice' giving 15 days time to these stores. But, even after this legal time had passed, both the companies did not submit any compliance report to the office regarding the necessary improvements in their functioning. Due to non-submission of compliance reports within the stipulated time, a legal hearing was held before Assistant Commissioner (Food) Praveen Umap to find out what was the role of the companies in the matter and why they did not submit the reports.

Even during this hearing, no satisfactory compliance report was submitted by the concerned companies. This made it clear that these companies failed to make the necessary reforms as per the law even after the deadline given by the administration. Even after the hearing, the administration did not adopt a lenient stance and once again gave fifteen days to the companies to make necessary reforms. But, even within this deadline, the companies did not submit compliance reports to the office regarding the reforms. This proved that these companies were continuously violating the legal regulations required under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Finally, in order not to jeopardize people's health and keeping in mind the interest of the people at large, Assistant Commissioner Praveen Umap has issued orders to suspend the food licenses of both the places till further orders. This action was taken under the leadership of Food Safety Officer Raviraj Dhabarde under the guidance of Praveen Umap, Assistant Commissioner (Food), Food and Drug Administration Department, Joint Commissioner, Nagpur, Krishna Jaipurkar.
