The conflict seems to be increasing between the two constituent parties of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the issue of creamy layer and sub-quota in Scheduled Caste (SC) reservation. National President of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Union Minister Chirag Paswan has reacted sharply to the statement of Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Hum) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi and has demanded his resignation from the post of minister. Congress leaders have reacted regarding this.
Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput told IANS, “Jitan Ram Manjhi has gone so far in pleasing the Bharatiya Janata Party that he no longer cares about the country, the Constitution, backward classes or Dalits.
If Jitan Ram Manjhi does not care about Dalits, Constitution or reservation, he should be removed immediately. As far as Chirag Paswan is concerned, if you stand with Dalits and the Constitution, then leave Bharatiya Janata Party. Otherwise, it will be considered that you are just pretending.”
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said, “Who are Chirag Paswan and Manjhi? Both are cabinet ministers in the Modi government and heads of their respective parties. Both are accusing each other on the issue of reservation, which is against the Constitution.”
Perhaps he does not realize that the principle of collective responsibility applies to the Council of Ministers. Whatever a minister says is considered the government's stand unless contradicted.”
At the same time, Chirag Paswan said in X Post, “Reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the Constitution is not just a provision of opportunity, but a protective shield of social justice against social discrimination, untouchability and inequality that has been going on for centuries.”
He further said, “In such a situation, the demand for 'creamy layer' or sub-categorization in SC/ST reservation is going to weaken the basic objective of social justice. Those who support it should first set a moral example by giving up the benefit of reservation themselves.
As long as discrimination and inequality persist in the society, our fight to protect the rights, honor and self-respect of the deprived and exploited classes will continue with full strength.”
