J.J. High-risk surgery successful in hospital, bullet stuck in skull removed!

Mumbai's Sir J.J. The team of neurosurgeons and ENT specialists at the hospital have successfully removed the approximately 1 cm bullet stuck in a very complex and delicate part of the base of the skull.

This surgery was done under the guidance of Dr. Vernon Velho, Head of Neurosurgery Department and Professor Dr. Srinivas Chavan, Head of ENT Department, in which Dr. Hrishikesh of Neurosurgery Department and Dr. Naveen Singh, Assistant Professor of ENT Department, actively participated.

This case was a big challenge for surgery, because the bullet was stuck in the base of the skull, which was not easy to reach. Actually, this bullet was very close to the internal carotid artery, which is one of the main veins that supply blood to the brain. Because of the small size of the bullet, it was more difficult to locate and remove it safely, making the surgery technically challenging and requiring very careful planning.

With the help of advanced neuronavigation technology, C-arm imaging and endoscopic techniques, the combined team of ENT and Neurosurgery located the exact location of the bullet and successfully removed it. The entire procedure was completed with ease, demonstrating how advanced technology, precise surgical expertise and teamwork are essential in dealing with complex situations involving the skull base.

The anesthesia team of Assistant Professor Dr. Ananthan Krishnan and SR Dr. Arunandhi provided support during the surgery and played an important role in making the operation successful. This achievement was achieved by Sir J.J. in handling challenging and high-stakes surgical cases. Reflecting the hospital's clinical expertise, teamwork and technical capabilities.

It also highlights the importance of collaboration between ENT and neurosurgery departments in complex skull base surgeries, especially in cases involving delicate brain nerves.

The team led by Sir J.J. Expressed gratitude to the hospital's Dean Dr. Bhandarwar, Associate Dean Dr. Ranjit Mankeshwar and Medical Superintendent Dr. Sanjay Surase for their constant encouragement, guidance and support, which has helped in strengthening the ENT and Neurosurgery departments and providing better treatment to the patients. This successful surgery is an example of the hospital's continued commitment to providing advanced, multidisciplinary and patient-centric healthcare.
