Chennai: Director Rajkumar Periasamy’s much-awaited action entertainer ‘Om’, featuring Tamil star Dhanush and Malayalam superstar Mammootty in the lead, will now hit screens on November 20, its makers announced on Friday.
Wunderbar Films, the production house owned by actor Dhanush and the producer of the film, made the announcement on its social media platforms.
“The Day for the Ultimate Strike is Here. #OM Hits theatres worldwide on November 20, 2026,” the production house posted.
The makers had originally planned to release the film on October 16. However, Dhanush later announced that the release had been postponed.
He said the makers had chosen to postpone the film out of respect for Superstar Rajinikanth, whose film ‘Jailer 2’ is slated to hit screens on October 15.
Dhanush had also said that ‘Om’ would not be releasing during Deepavali as Suriya’s film had already been announced for the same date. The actor-producer had said a new release date would be announced soon.
The film has generated considerable interest among fans and film buffs as it marks the first collaboration between Dhanush and Mammootty.
Rajkumar Periasamy had earlier disclosed that Mammootty plays a character named Karthikeyan in the film. At the title teaser launch event in June, the director said 60 to 65 per cent of the filming had been completed at the time.
The film’s unit recently shot in Malaysia. Mammootty also celebrated his recent National Award win with three other National Award winners — Dhanush, Rajkumar Periasamy and editor Kalaivanan — on the sets of the film.
Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah is also part of the film. The title carries the tagline ‘Chapter 1’, indicating the possibility of a sequel.
A title teaser released earlier showed a story revolving around people who cut red sanders for a living. Dhanush plays a woodcutter in the film. The teaser showed police personnel rounding up woodcutters allegedly chopping red sanders illegally, while Dhanush was seen coming to their rescue as the workers were held hostage at gunpoint.
Wunderbar Films head Sreyas had said at the title teaser launch that the film would be one of the biggest-budget productions of Dhanush’s career. He had also said the film would bring back the mass-oriented vintage Dhanush that fans had longed to see.
The film features Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela as the female leads, with music by Sai Abhyankkar. Ezhil Arasu is the cinematographer, Kalaivanan R is the editor and Kavya Sriram is the costume designer.
