Chandigarh: Punjab Police has achieved a major success in its fight against organized crime after bringing back gangster Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam from Moldova. The accused, who was allegedly linked to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, was extradited to India following a coordinated operation involving state and central agencies.
Amritpal Singh was among the wanted criminals being tracked by security agencies due to his alleged involvement in multiple serious cases. Police officials said that 21 criminal cases are registered against him in Punjab, including charges related to murder, attempt to murder, extortion, illegal weapons and other crimes.
Months-long operation tracked foreign hideout
According to officials, agencies worked for several months to trace the accused and complete the legal process required for his extradition. The operation involved intelligence gathering, coordination between different departments and assistance from international authorities.
Police have alleged that Amritpal Singh had been operating from outside India and was connected with criminal networks active in Punjab. His alleged foreign links had made him a priority target for law enforcement agencies.
Gangster network under police scanner
The extradition comes amid a wider crackdown by Punjab Police against gangsters who have shifted operations abroad to avoid arrest. Authorities have been focusing on dismantling overseas networks involved in organized crime, weapons supply and extortion activities.
Investigators are now expected to question Amritpal Singh regarding his alleged role in various cases and his connections with other members of criminal groups.
Legal action to continue in Punjab
After being brought back to India, the accused will face proceedings in the cases registered against him. Police are likely to seek further custody for investigation into his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
The extradition is being seen as a significant move in Punjab's campaign against fugitives hiding outside the country and continuing illegal operations through remote networks.
