8 workers died, many injured due to molten steel leaking in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: A massive industrial accident took place at a steel plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in which at least eight workers lost their lives, while many other workers were seriously injured. The accident occurred in the plant’s SMS-2 and STC-3 heating units when molten steel at extremely high temperatures suddenly spilled out. After the accident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the entire campus and panic spread among the employees.

According to preliminary information, the special ladle (large metal container) being used to transport molten steel from one place to another suddenly burst. After this, the extremely hot steel present in it quickly came out and the workers present nearby got hit by it. Within a few seconds the situation became very serious and the employees present there had to run to save their lives.

As soon as information about the incident was received, the plant’s security personnel, fire brigade and rescue teams immediately became active. Crews began efforts to control the fire and the spread of hot metal. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital, where their treatment is ongoing. The condition of many injured is said to be serious, due to which the death toll is feared to increase.

Circle Inspector of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Keshav Rao said that the accident occurred due to a technical fault in the ladle filled with molten steel. Due to the bursting of the ladle, a large amount of hot metal came out, causing this tragic accident. The administration is investigating the matter and trying to find out whether there was any lapse in security standards.

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita contacted the officials

Seeing the seriousness of the accident, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita immediately contacted the authorities. He talked to the District Collector and Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam over phone and got detailed information about the incident. He also directed the officials to provide the best medical facilities to the injured and there should be no delay in relief and rescue operations.

As soon as information about the incident was received, the Home Minister herself left for the accident site. He kept an eye on the situation by constantly staying in touch with administrative officials. At present, relief work is going on and the administration is working towards investigating the cause of the accident as well as providing all possible assistance to the affected families.
