New Delhi:Delhi Police launched a 48-hour special operation ‘Operation Chakravyuh’ to crack down on criminals in West Delhi. In this 48-hour long campaign, the police laid such a trap in search of declared criminals that 149 declared criminals came on the police radar. Of these, 81 were arrested, while 19 dead declared criminals were verified and 49 declared criminals were already found in judicial custody.
61 teams took charge, 191 soldiers in the field
61 special teams were formed in the western district to carry out Operation Chakravyuh. 191 policemen were deployed in these teams. Police teams started searching for the criminals declared absconding on the basis of local intelligence, information from informers, technical surveillance and old records. The police raided suspected hideouts and houses as well as verified the addresses and current locations of declared criminals. The records of criminals lodged in jails were also examined.
175 cases accounted for in ‘Chakravyuh’
During the operation, the police succeeded in solving a total of 175 cases. These include 28 serious criminal cases, 93 non-serious cases, 15 Negotiable Instruments Act i.e. NI Act and 39 Electricity Act cases.
132 men, 17 women on police radar
According to the police, the 149 declared criminals traced or arrested include 132 men and 17 women. Police combed through old addresses, local contacts and technical clues to trace the absconding criminals.
‘Chakravyuh’ made for criminals
The Western District Police conducted this operation entirely under intelligence based strategy. Intensive investigation of the hideouts of declared criminals, activation of informer system, technical surveillance, targeted raids on suspicious locations and coordination between various police stations were the important links of this campaign. The operation was monitored under the direction of senior officers of the Western District Police. Police teams carried out the action under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-II Western District Abhishek Gupta, IPS, Operations and Assistant Police Commissioners of the respective sub-divisions and all police station in-charges.
DCP’s message will bring declared criminals under the grip of law.
Hareshwar V. Swamy, DCP, Western District Police, said that tracing 149 declared criminals and solving 175 cases in 48 hours through Operation Chakravyuh is the result of coordinated and proactive action by the police. The operation of Western District Police will continue further and every possible effort will be made to bring the criminals declared absconding within the ambit of law.
