Preparations for Delhi MCD Mayor elections in full swing, voting possible on April 29, political stir intensifies!

Political turmoil has intensified regarding the Mayor elections in Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). According to the information, the mayor’s election can be held on April 29. Elections for the Deputy Mayor and three members of the Standing Committee will also be held on the same day. This time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is claiming to win the Mayor elections on its own. To win the post of Mayor, 137 votes are required, and in the current situation BJP is said to have more votes than this.

Although BJP also has the support of Indraprastha Vikas Party, but the party will not need to depend on their votes for victory. Earlier, in the Standing Committee meeting on March 31, 9 out of total 18 members had retired. Of these, 3 members were associated with the House and 6 members were associated with the Zone. Now elections will also be held to fill these vacant posts.

• In MCD, the fourth and fifth year is of ‘General’ category, so this time mayor can be elected from any category, be it female, male or Scheduled Caste category.

How many MLAs will get voting rights in the Mayor elections?

Not only corporation councilors, but also MLAs and Members of Parliament take part in voting in the mayor elections. The number of MLAs is decided on the basis of a fixed formula, in which this time 11 MLAs of BJP and 2 MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party will be able to cast their votes.

BJP: 123 councilors

Aam Aadmi Party: 100 councilors

123 Municipal Councilors, 11 MLAs, 7 Lok Sabha MPs, overall BJP is getting around 141 votes, which is more than the 137 votes required to become Mayor.
