Women’s Reservation Bill: Strong demonstration of BJP Mahila Morcha outside Rahul Gandhi’s residence, many leaders in custody
New Delhi. The women’s front of the Delhi Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested outside the residence of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha on Saturday regarding the Constitution Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation and during this time several women leaders who were burning the effigy of Rahul Gandhi were arrested by the police. The protesting BJP Mahila Morcha workers held placards in their hands and raised slogans against Rahul Gandhi and Congress.
Many big leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister Annapurna Devi, BJP MP Hema Malini, MP Kamaljit Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva participated in this demonstration. When the protesting women were burning the effigy of Rahul Gandhi near the Sunehri Masjid roundabout, the policemen stopped them and detained many protesters.
Police arrested many BJP leaders including Sachdeva and Kamaljit Sehrawat, Bansuri Swaraj, Yogita and took them to Sansad Marg police station. During this, Hema Malini said, “All the women power of Delhi has gathered here and is protesting against the fact that the opposition did not allow the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill to be passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday. All the women are very angry with this, that is why we are protesting.”
Criticizing the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, Rekha Gupta said, “What kind of victory did the Congress and Samajwadi leaders see in the defeat of women that they were celebrating?” At the same time, Annapurna Devi said that the intention of the opposition alliance was not to allow this bill to be passed. He described Friday’s incident in the Lok Sabha as shameful and sad and said that it breaks the morale of the women of the country.
Sachdeva said that Congress has once again displayed its anti-development character. He said that this bill was not just a legislative process, but a historic step to bring women into the mainstream of decision making by giving them 33 percent reservation in the Lok Sabha and Assemblies. He said, “The leaders of the royal family of the opposition, who do not see anything outside their family, have worked to destroy the rights of the matriarchy of half the population of the country by stopping the bill from being passed.”
MP Manoj Tiwari said, “My heart is crying a lot. Yesterday when the bill could not be passed in the Parliament. You must have seen the face of Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday, how he held back his pain and tears. Congress, Samajwadi Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have challenged the women of this country and the women will answer them. I am happy that they (women) have come here today and we have come in their support.”
