What was the controversial statement?
Actually, this whole controversy started with the statement of Mallikarjun Kharge which he gave in Chennai on Tuesday. Kharge, while targeting PM Modi in a press conference, accused him of intimidating opposition parties through misuse of government machinery and central agencies. Kharge had said, ‘These AIADMK people put up Annadurai’s photo. How can they go with Modi? He is a terrorist. He does not believe in equality. His party does not believe in justice and equality.
Kharge gave clarification after some time
However, soon after this Congress President Kharge gave clarification. He said that what he meant to say was that the Prime Minister is terrorizing the democratic structure of the country. He said, ‘He is scaring people and political parties. I did not call him a terrorist in the literal sense. He is misusing his power and government machinery to defame and suppress the opposition.
Election Commission action
Currently angry due to Kharge’s comment On BJP’s complaint, the Election Commission has directed the Congress President to present his side within 24 hours. The thing to note is that this notice has been issued just a day before the voting in Tamil Nadu and the first phase of elections in West Bengal, regarding which Congress has also raised questions on the timing.
