The Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major blow on Friday when 7 MPs under the leadership of Raghav Chadha rebelled against the party. All the MPs announced that they are merging the party with BJP by breaking it with two-thirds majority. Actually, till yesterday there were 10 MPs of Aam Aadmi Party in Rajya Sabha, but with the departure of seven, now only 3 MPs of the party are left in Rajya Sabha. The breakdown of such a large number of MPs in the party breaks any party.
In such a situation, questions are being raised that when 7 MPs have left the party, what effect will this have on the vote bank of Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab?
Four MPs are not full time leaders
Actually, 7 Rajya Sabha MPs of Aam Aadmi Party have joined BJP, out of which four MPs are not full time leaders. Ashok Mittal is in the business of education and sweets, Vikram Sahni is a big businessman of Punjab whose business spread from India to Africa, Rajendra Gupta is a businessman of clothes, paper and fertilizer, Harbhajan Singh has been a famous cricketer of India. In such a situation, only Raghav Chaddha, Swati Maliwal and Sandeep Pathak are full time leaders.

Did not win MLA and MP elections
Out of these, Raghav Chadha, Swati Maliwal and Sandeep Pathak are definitely full time leaders but all three of them are not mass leaders. All three leaders have no public support. In a way, all three MPs have been leaders of the organization. Also, none of them have won the MLA or MP elections yet. In such a situation, Aam Aadmi Party does not seem to have any significant impact on the basis of vote bank in Punjab.

How much support base is there in Punjab?
The reality is that none of the seven turncoat MPs has any support base in Punjab. Assembly elections are to be held in Punjab next year. There are a lot of expectations from Punjab after the party’s defeat in Delhi. Party President Arvind Kejriwal is continuously working to strengthen his organization in Punjab. If seen in terms of support base in Punjab, Kejriwal himself, CM Bhagwant Mann and Manish Sisodia are leaders with strong support base.
In this situation, the rebellion of these seven MPs from the Aam Aadmi Party does not seem to cause any major loss to the party in Punjab. Yes, it is definitely true that their defection will weaken the organisation, leadership and structure of the Aam Aadmi Party. Besides, the party’s image and funding will also be harmed.
