Aam Aadmi Party preparing to go to court against rebel MPs, will demand cancellation of membership

digital desk- Amidst the developments that are creating a stir in the country’s politics, Aam Aadmi Party has prepared to take a big step against its rebel Rajya Sabha MPs. The party has announced that it will file a petition in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat by this evening and demand cancellation of membership of the rebel MPs. In fact, the party’s seven Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal and Vikramjit Sahni joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday. This major political development has weakened AAP’s position in the upper house of Parliament, where it is now left with only three members.

Such cases have come before also

AAP says that these MPs cannot merge the party, hence their membership should be terminated. The party is taking legal advice in this matter and is preparing to approach the court if necessary. According to party sources, this matter will be raised under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution i.e. anti-defection law. However, political experts believe that the outcome of this case will not be so straightforward. There have been instances in the past when a large number of MPs got relief when they switched parties together. When Venkaiah Naidu was the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Telugu Desam Party MP C.M. Ramesh had merged with BJP along with two-thirds of his party members. At that time the Chairman had approved this merger and the membership of the members remained intact. In such a situation, the legal battle before AAP is not considered easy.

Arvind Kejriwal’s reaction came out

Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has also reacted to this entire incident. “BJP has once again betrayed Punjabis,” he said in a line on social media platform X. This statement of Kejriwal shows the party’s strong stance on this issue. At the same time, Raghav Chadha, who joined BJP, made serious allegations against AAP. He said that the party to which he gave 15 years has now deviated from honest politics. According to him, “I was the right man in the wrong party, now I am getting closer to the people.” AAP earlier had a total of 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, including seven from Punjab and three from Delhi. But after the departure of seven MPs, the strength of the party has reduced considerably. This development will not only affect AAP’s position within Parliament, but can also have a major impact on the party’s political strategy in the times to come.
