8th Pay Commission: Preparation for bumper increase in basic salary to ₹18,000

New Delhi. The 8th Pay Commission has once again brought great expectations for the Central Government employees and pensioners. The Commission is going to organize important meetings with unions and employee organizations between April 28 and 30 in Delhi, in which possible changes in the pay and pension structure will be discussed.

Activities intensified in commission meetings

This panel constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai is working rapidly. The Commission has clarified that due to limited time it will not be possible to interact with all the organizations in detail, but efforts are being made to include most of the key stakeholders.

Eyes fixed on fitment factor

This time the biggest discussion is about the fitment factor. On this basis, the basic salary of the employees is decided. It is estimated that if the proposed changes are approved, the current minimum basic salary could increase from ₹18,000 to more than ₹50,000. This change can have a direct impact on the income of millions of employees and pensioners.

Crores of people can get benefits

About 50 lakh central employees and more than 65 lakh pensioners are expected to benefit from this possible increase. This will not only increase their income but is also likely to improve their standard of living.

Hearing will be held outside Delhi also

The Commission has also made it clear that meetings will be held not only in Delhi, but also in various states and union territories of the country. This will also give an opportunity to remote employee organizations to express their views.

effective date

The 8th Pay Commission is proposed to be implemented from January 1, 2026. At present, the commission is busy preparing the final report after taking inputs from various ministries and labor organizations.
