Haryana High Court gave instructions to Punjab Government, said- Harbhajan Singh and his family should not suffer a single scratch…
Tezzbuzz Desk- The Punjab and Haryana High Court has given strict instructions to the state government that Rajya Sabha member Harbhajan Singh and his family should not suffer any physical harm and their safety should be ensured. This order was given during the hearing on the petition filed regarding withdrawal of his security.
Taking the matter seriously, the court has issued a notice to the Punjab government and fixed May 12 as the next hearing date. The court clearly said that any kind of negligence in security arrangements will not be accepted.
According to the information, Harbhajan Singh recently started his new political innings after political changes with some other leaders. After this, Punjab Police withdrew his security, soon after which the Central Government deployed CRPF security outside his residence in Jalandhar.
After the security was removed, demonstrations took place outside his house and objectionable comments were also written on the walls. The petition was filed on the basis of this incident.
The petition alleged that the decision to remove the security was taken without any threat reassessment and without due process. It also said that after the security was removed, the mob demonstrated at his residence and damaged property, while the police present at the spot did not take any effective action.
The petition also claimed that Harbhajan Singh was out of the city at the time of the incident and he got information about the situation from his family members.
The High Court said that the safety of any public representative or citizen is the primary responsibility of the state and any laxity in it can have serious consequences. The court made it clear that the security of Harbhajan Singh and his family should be ensured till the next hearing.
At present the entire matter is in the judicial process and the state government will have to clarify its position in the next hearing on May 12. This incident has raised serious questions on both political and security system.
