Delhi Education Directorate gave new instructions to schools, it will not be mandatory to collect fees for more than one month
New Delhi. Delhi Education Directorate has ordered all private, non-government and recognized schools in the capital to collect fees (school fees) every month. While issuing this instruction on April 30, the Directorate made it clear that if the schools do not follow this order, strict action will be taken against them. According to the directorate, the step has been taken following complaints received from parents alleging that some schools are forcing them to pay fees on bi-monthly, quarterly or other advance basis, thereby placing unnecessary financial burden on families. In view of this situation, the Directorate has taken this step so that the parents can be saved from such financial pressure and the process of collecting fees can be made regular and transparent.
The directorate said in this order that “By collecting fees every month, parents will get regular intervals for payment, which will make their financial planning more organized and convenient. Also, if any school violates these instructions, strict action will be taken against it, which may also include punishment like suspending the registration of the school. Issuing the instructions, it has been said that they should follow the rule of collecting fees (school fees) every month. Under the new order, schools will not be allowed to pay more than one installment in a single calendar month. Payment of fees for the period will not be mandatory, mandatory or binding. This step is in line with the instructions issued earlier and the judgment of the Delhi High Court, which emphasized on ensuring a convenient and fair structure of fee collection for the parents. The directorate said that this step will relieve the parents from unnecessary financial burden, and the process of fee collection in schools will be more transparent and regular.
Schools will not be able to charge fees for more than one month
Delhi Directorate of Education has clarified in its new order that no school will oblige, force or compel any parent or guardian to pay fees for more than one calendar month in a single installment. The order signals strict action against schools that continue the practice of charging advance fees, thereby placing additional financial burden on parents. The order also clarifies that “those parents or guardians who, on their own volition and without any pressure or inducement, find it convenient to pay more than one month’s fees in a single installment, may be allowed to do so”. This arrangement guarantees that parents who wish to pay fees as per their convenience can optionally do so, but schools cannot force them to do so.
This order will have to be displayed on the notice board of the school
“No school shall make payment of advance fees a pre-condition for admission, continued enrollment or any other student service,” the order said. This means that schools can no longer force parents to charge upfront fees for any service, relieving parents of additional financial burden. Along with this, the order also stated that all schools will have to display this order prominently on their notice boards and also upload it on their official website within seven working days, so that everyone can get timely information about this new instruction.
