People stand in queues for the thing which is haram in Islam in the holiest country of Muslims; People all over the world were stunned to see
Saudi Arabia: There is a shortage of alcohol in Saudi Arabia. The country’s only official liquor store in Riyadh has almost run out of products like beer, wine and tequila. It is being told that the ongoing war with Iran has disrupted the supply, due to which new shipments are not arriving on time.
This store is in the Diplomatic District of Riyadh and has no name or signage. It was opened only for non-Muslim diplomats in 2024. Later, it was opened to rich foreigners also. Although alcohol has been completely banned in Saudi Arabia since 1952, the government has given permission to this one store to attract foreign visitors.
What is the condition of the only store?
Most of the store’s shelves are still empty. The remaining items are either very expensive or from less well-known brands. A foreign diplomat said that there was no white wine in the store and only some expensive red wines were available. He also said that some beer had arrived recently, but that too was in very small quantity.
Due to shortage of liquor, long lines are forming outside the store. Many foreigners are leaving their work during the day and going to the store to buy alcohol. During this period, sometimes arguments and fights are also taking place between people. Shop staff told that there is a delay in supply from Bahrain and United Arab Emirates because the liquor reaches Saudi Arabia through these countries.
Why was the liquor shop opened?
This shop is an example of the changes taking place in Saudi Arabia. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is gradually opening up the country to attract more foreign investment and visitors. Previously, people had to make wine at home, order it from diplomats, or resort to the black market, where both price and quality were uncertain.
According to reports, the government was planning to open two more liquor shops in Jeddah and Aramco area, but this has not happened yet. At the same time, the government has not yet given any official statement on this shortage.
