Hitendra Nath Goswami wins in Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi loses by 23,182 votes

Knews Desk– The results of the 2026 assembly elections in Assam’s Jorhat assembly seat have been revealed, in which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami has won by defeating Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi by a huge margin of 23,182 votes.

As per the final results, Hitendra Nath Goswami got a total of 69,439 votes, while Gaurav Gogoi had to be content with 46,257 votes. A total of 14 rounds of vote counting took place on this seat, in which the BJP candidate was leading from the beginning. It is noteworthy that Gaurav Gogoi was contesting the assembly elections for the first time. He is the son of Tarun Gogoi and is considered a big face of Congress in the state. He had entered the fray with the intention of carrying forward his family political legacy and strengthening the party, but had to face a crushing defeat.

During the counting of votes, the contest appeared to be close in the initial rounds, but as the rounds progressed, the BJP candidate strengthened his lead. By the 9th round, Goswami had taken a lead of more than 13 thousand votes, which remained intact till the end. With this victory, BJP has further strengthened its political hold in Assam. At the same time, this result is being considered a big blow for the Congress, especially when one of the prominent faces of the party has faced defeat.
