Big relief to electricity consumers in UP, now prepaid smart meters will work like postpaid, electricity will not be cut suddenly
Lucknow: The government has taken a big and relief decision for the electricity consumers in Uttar Pradesh. For a long time, people were complaining about prepaid smart meters, the biggest problem of which was sudden power cut due to loss of balance. Now, keeping this problem in mind, the government has made changes in the system. Under the new system, prepaid smart meters will now work like postpaid, which will provide a lot of convenience to consumers.
After this decision of the government, now consumers will get electricity bill every month. Where earlier people had to recharge in advance, now they will be billed as per consumption. Besides, you will also get 15 days time to deposit the bill. With this, the problem of sudden power cuts will be eliminated to a great extent and consumers will get relief. Energy Minister AK Sharma said that this step has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of consumers. He says that this will make the billing process easier and more transparent than before.
Now you will get electricity bill like this
According to the new system, electricity consumption will be kept track of from the first to the last date of every month. After this, their bills will be sent to the consumers by the 10th. This bill will reach the mobile directly through SMS and WhatsApp. With this facility, people will not need to go anywhere and they will get information on time. The most important thing is that after receiving the bill, 15 days time will be given for payment, so that there will be no need to make the payment in a hurry.
What to do if you do not receive the bill?
If for some reason the consumer does not receive the bill on time, then options have been given for that also. Consumers can get the bill by sending their connection number on WhatsApp chatbot. Apart from this, the bill can also be issued by registering a complaint on the 1912 portal. People who have changed their mobile number can update it and avail the bill alert facility again. This will reduce the possibility of missing any kind of information.
Relief for outstanding bills
The government has also given relief regarding old outstanding bills. Now consumers can deposit the dues till April 30 in 10 easy installments. This means that people who have higher outstanding will not need to pay the entire amount in one go.
Those consumers whose postpaid to prepaid meters were earlier installed and their security amount was refunded, will now be refunded. But this also will not have to be given simultaneously. The government has given the facility to deposit it in four installments, due to which there will be no financial pressure on the consumers.
Special camp for complaints
Special camps will be organized in May and June to solve the problems related to smart meters and billing. These camps will be organized at the block and sub-division level, where people will be able to go directly and express their problems. Besides, the facility of online complaint will also continue.
The government has also instructed the officials to ensure electricity supply as per schedule. If the transformer gets damaged somewhere, orders have been given to repair or replace it immediately. This will provide relief to consumers from the problem of power cuts.

For any problem related to billing or electricity, helpline numbers have also been issued for different areas, so that people can easily register their complaints and get timely solutions.
