VB-G Ram Ji Law 2025: Applicable across the country from July 1, 2026
The Central Government has announced the implementation of VB-G Ram Ji Act of 2025. The government has fixed July 1, 2026 as the date on which the provisions of this law will come into force in all the states and union territories of India.
New Delhi: The Central Government has announced the official date of implementation of “Develop India-Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Act 2025 (VB-Ji Ram Ji Act)” across the country. According to the notification issued by the government, this law will become effective in all states and union territories from July 1, 2026. This new Act is being considered as a major step towards strengthening and expanding the existing rural employment guarantee framework.
125 days employment guarantee, more security than ever
Under the new law, eligible families in rural areas will be given a legal guarantee of unskilled labor based employment for 125 days every financial year. This is more than the existing system, in which 100 days of employment was provided. If a family is not provided employment within 15 days of application, it will be entitled to unemployment allowance.
The Act emphasizes on making wage payments more transparent and faster. The main provisions are as follows, payment of wages weekly or mandatory within 15 days, payment directly into bank or post office accounts through DBT, provision of giving 0.05% compensation per day on delay, this system is being implemented with the aim of ensuring timely payment to the workers.
In the new system, attendance at workplaces will be recorded through face recognition technology. However, in case of technical disruption or network problem, alternative arrangements will also be available. The old e-KYC verified job cards will remain valid until the new Rural Employment Guarantee Cards are issued.
Gram Panchayats will get central role
In this Act, Gram Panchayats have been considered as the backbone of the rural employment system. His key responsibilities include:
- Registration of families
- accepting employment applications
- Selection and execution of tasks
- records management
- Preparation of Developed Gram Panchayat Plan (VGPP)
Apart from this, plans will be prepared as per local needs with the active participation of Gram Sabhas.
Development work will be done in four major areas
Employment actions under the new scheme have been focused in four major areas:
- Water Conservation and Water Security Projects
- rural infrastructure development
- Livelihood and Employment Generation Framework
- Extreme weather and disaster protection measures
Along with this, the works of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) will also be included under wage assistance. The government has clarified that no type of contractors will be allowed under this scheme. All work will be done directly by workers. Along with this, excessive use of heavy machines has been banned, so that rural workers can get maximum employment opportunities.
