Know about this unique ‘party’…

Chief Justice’s remarks aroused anger

This whole story started with a hearing held in the Supreme Court on 15 May. According to media reports, the country’s Chief Justice Surya Kant had allegedly compared some people to ‘cockroaches’. He had said that some youth are like cockroaches, who do not get any job or work. “Some of them become media, some social media or RTI activists and start targeting others.”

However, the Chief Justice later clarified that his statement was misinterpreted by the media and he was only talking about people coming into law with fake degrees. But by then this statement had stung the unemployed youth of the country.

‘Party’ stood up jokingly

The very next day after the Chief Justice’s statement, i.e. on 16th May, some youth on the internet jokingly created ‘Cockroach Janata Party’. He shared a Google Form on ‘X’ so that people can subscribe to this party. Within a few hours, thousands of people joined it and within 3 days this figure crossed 20 lakhs.

Its founder is a former volunteer of AAP

The name of the person who started this digital movement is Abhijeet Dipke (30 years). Abhijeet has previously been a social media volunteer of ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ (AAP) and is currently studying Public Relations from Boston University. Abhijeet says that he never thought that a joke would get such huge support from people.

On the party’s official website, it has been described as the voice of those youth “whom the country’s system has forgotten to count.” Interesting conditions have been set for joining this party, such as the applicant must be ‘unemployed’, be ‘active on the internet throughout the day’ and be able to ‘vent anger in a professional manner’.

Discussing serious issues while having fun

Even though the style of this party is funny, they have also released their 5-point manifesto. In this, the youth have surrounded the system on serious issues like unemployment in the country, rigging in government examinations (paper leaks), control over media and electoral reforms.

Joined together by big leaders and stalwarts

The strength of this movement increased further when big politicians like Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad also expressed their desire to join this ‘party’. Not only this, the owner of the world’s first free email service ‘Hotmail’ and famous Indian-American businessman Sabeer Bhatia has also praised this party by sharing a video on Instagram.

Experts believe that ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ may have started as a joke, but it clearly expresses the anger hidden within today’s youth (Gen Z) and the frustration of not getting jobs.
