Health Ministry’s initiative: Technology gives new impetus to TB-free India campaign
Geneva/New Delhi. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda said that taking technology to the last person is India’s biggest legal and health goal. He said this in a high-level program organized on lung health check-up during the 79th World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was organized by the ‘Stop TB Partnership’ and co-hosted by India, Japan, Philippines and Zambia.
Nadda said that timely screening, early detection of disease and providing equal health facilities to all people are the foundation of a strong health system. He said that the ‘TB Free India’ campaign of the Government of India has become the world’s largest screening and early diagnosis campaign. Under this, door-to-door testing, mobile health teams, community campaigns and special programs are being run in high-risk areas.
He informed that molecular testing systems, digital chest X-ray, artificial intelligence based tools and handheld screening devices are being used on a large scale in remote and underserved areas. Nadda said that an artificial intelligence based multilingual chatbot named ‘Khushi’ has been added to the ‘TB Mukt Bharat App’, which instantly provides information related to symptoms, testing centers and treatment to the patients.
Praising the Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centers and frontline health workers, the Union Minister said that the government is continuously working to strengthen the screening of lung diseases. Calling for global cooperation, he said affordable testing facilities, digital tools, better primary health services and sustainable financial support are essential to eradicate TB. Nadda said that India is committed to making the fight against TB more effective in collaboration with countries, innovators and health organizations of the world.
