Sharvari reveals Punjab dresser inspires her role in ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’

Indian actress Sharvari reflected on her preparation for the upcoming period romance Main Vaapas Aaungaset in pre-Partition India. She worked closely with director Imtiaz Ali and co-star Vedang Raina to bring authenticity to her role.

The film tells the story of two lovers whose relationship is challenged by the Partition. Sharvari shared that playing a character from eight decades ago required understanding the subtle gestures and emotions of that time.

“A lot is said in the unspoken, and that is something we don’t imbibe. But the beauty of that era is that so little is said, yet it makes such an impact,” she explained.

The cast and crew spent weeks in small villages in Punjab’s Sangrur district to shoot the film. Sharvari revealed that staying in a 150-year-old house helped her connect with her character. “One room had an antique dresser. I chose it because I wanted to feel like Jiya while preparing. I did my makeup there to connect with her,” she said.

Vedang, who plays her co-star, prepared by listening to music from the 1940s. “I researched songs from 1946-47, the time of the film,” he said. Sharvari added that they bonded over the music during their recce.

Main Vaapas Aaunga is scheduled to release in theatres on June 12.
