Public anger rained on TMC MLA Madan Mitra, eggs thrown at the convoy
After the defeat of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the 2026 assembly elections in West Bengal, public protests against party leaders continue. Eggs were allegedly thrown at the convoy of senior TMC MLA Madan Mitra in Ariyadah area of Kamarhati assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district on Saturday night. This incident has once again brought to the fore the growing public anger towards the leaders of the ruling party in the state.
According to preliminary information, Madan Mitra had reached there after receiving news of tension in the area. Meanwhile, a group of local people protested and allegedly threw eggs targeting his vehicle. As the situation worsened the convoy had to return from there.
However, Madan Mitra later claimed that he was not present inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. At the same time, in some reports it was also alleged that his driver was beaten up during the uproar.
After the incident, Madan Mitra alleged that this attack was carried out in a planned manner by anti-social elements supported by BJP. On the other hand, local residents say that dissatisfaction was growing among the people in the area for a long time.
It is being told that the protest started outside the residence of a councilor of ward number 14 of Kamarhati. A large number of auto and e-rickshaw drivers gathered here and raised the demand to return the “cut money” allegedly collected over the years. The protesters accused local leaders of illegal extortion and demanded accountability after the change of power in the state.
In recent weeks, several incidents of protest against TMC leaders by throwing eggs have come to light. Last week, the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee also had to face opposition during his visit to Sonarpur. During that time the protesters allegedly raised slogans and threw eggs and stones, after which the security personnel had to safely evacuate them from there.
Apart from this, protests were also seen during the court appearance of TMC leaders and councilors arrested in extortion, corruption and other cases. Even during the appearance of arrested TMC leader Jai Prakash Majumdar and former minister Swaroop Biswas, protesters carried eggs and raised slogans demanding accountability.
Political analysts believe that after the election defeat, many Trinamool Congress leaders are facing increasing public dissatisfaction. The latest attack on Madan Mitra’s convoy in Ariyadah is being considered as another indication of this changing political environment.
