Ras Laffan Gas Plant Accident: 13 including 12 Indians died, Foreign Minister expressed deep sorrow

Knews Desk- A massive explosion in a gas factory located in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar has left many families in deep shock. A total of 13 people have died in this tragic accident, including 12 Indian citizens. At the same time, 66 people have been injured and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Expressing deep grief over the incident, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that the Indian Embassy is in constant touch with the Qatari authorities and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected families.

In his message released on social media, the Foreign Minister said, “The news of the death and injuries of many people, including Indian citizens, in the explosion in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar is extremely saddening. Our Embassy, ​​along with the Qatar administration, is engaged in providing assistance to the families of the victims. Our condolences are with the families of the deceased and we wish the speedy recovery of the injured.”

The Indian Embassy in Doha has also expressed deep concern over this “unfortunate incident”. The Embassy said that in this difficult time, it is working with the Government of Qatar and the Indian community to provide all possible help to the affected people. Besides, the process of sending the mortal remains of the deceased to India has also been started as soon as possible.

According to Qatari authorities, the accident occurred due to a technical fault during operation at the Barzan Local Gas Supply Facility in Ras Laffan. Apart from Indians, citizens of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania and Nigeria have also been injured in the accident. Officials said that the condition of all the injured is stable and they are being provided proper medical care.

Qatar’s Energy Minister said that the production at the gas plant where this accident occurred was closed from December 2025 due to necessary maintenance works. Production had started again at the plant about two days ago, after which this massive explosion occurred during operation. At present, a detailed investigation is being done into the technical reasons and other circumstances of the accident. Officials say that there is no possibility of any gas leakage or environmental hazard in the surrounding area due to this incident.
