6 Not only rebels, all MPs of Maharashtra lag in spending their MP funds
The parliamentary party of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bala Saheb) Thackeray has now broken. On Monday, 6 out of 9 party MPs i.e. two-thirds joined Shiv Sena i.e. Eknath Shinde’s party. While changing sides, these leaders listed many issues, the most important of which was that they were facing difficulty in getting funds for the work. Om Prakash Raje Nimbalkar, one of the MPs who switched sides, said that he has no problem with Uddhav Thackeray but he is going with the current government due to lack of funds. However, these leaders did not clearly say what kind of fund was being talked about. The reality is that all the MPs of Maharashtra are lagging behind in terms of spending MP funds and the state is at 27th position out of total 36. Maharashtra Lok Sabha MPs have spent only 13.37 percent of the MP fund since 2024.4
Now the effect of this change of party is that now Shiv Sena has the maximum number of Lok Sabha MPs in Maharashtra and Eknath Shinde’s position in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has strengthened. On the other hand, notices have already been issued to these MPs by Uddhav Thackeray’s party. Now a demand will be made to the Speaker of Lok Sabha to cancel the membership of these leaders. The Uddhav faction claims that these MPs have violated the party’s whip. However, we are talking about the funds of MPs and their expenses. To get this information, we have extracted the data of MP fund and seen whether these MPs who left Shiv Sena (UBT) were facing problems of funds or not?

Understand MP Fund
First of all, it is important to understand what is the issue of MP fund. Actually, every MP gets a fund of Rs 5 crore every year. Means Rs 25 crore in 5 years. This money also keeps getting collected. Meaning, if only Rs 3 crores are spent this year, then by adding two more in the next five years, the total will be Rs 7 crores. To spend this amount, the MPs tell what work needs to be done and the local District Magistrate gets the work done. Another thing is that this MP fund keeps coming into the account automatically and no recommendation is required for it. For expenditure, the approval of the District Magistrate and the MP is required.
Who spent how much?
If we talk about Maharashtra, it is at 27th position out of total 36 including states and union territories. That means Maharashtra is far behind in the matter of spending MP funds. There are a total of 63 MPs in Maharashtra including Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and these MPs have been able to spend only 15.40 percent of the MP fund. If we talk only about Lok Sabha MPs, only 13.37 percent of the funds have been spent.
