Suspended FSSO Kamalendra Kumar Singh has written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today. In this he wrote that, on June 22, 15 innocent students lost their lives in the fire that broke out in a coaching center in Lucknow’s Aliganj area. This incident plunged the entire state into deep grief and anger. In this context, action has been taken against a small level officer like me, FSSO Kamalendra Kumar Singh, but this action is unjust because the scope of work of FSSO is limited.

My work is limited to local observation and reporting only. I do not have the authority to give fire clearance of buildings or enforce safety standards on a large scale, the main responsibility rests with CFO Lucknow. CFO is responsible for the fire safety system of the entire city and giving fire clearance to the buildings. The fact that the building which was passed for residential use was being used illegally for commercial use for years should have been in the cognizance of the CFO.

He further wrote in his letter, the delay and lack of coordination in the fire fighting process after the fire reflects the direct negligence of the CFO. It is requested that the action taken against small officers like me should be reconsidered, the entire responsibility of the incident should be fixed on Lucknow CFO, strict departmental and legal action should be taken against the CFO, speedy justice and appropriate compensation should be ensured to the victim’s families.
