Open challenge to Mamata Banerjee? Rebel group reaches Election Commission, calls itself ‘real TMC’

West Bengal TMC Crisis: The infighting within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the politics of West Bengal has now taken a new turn. The leaders who rebelled against the party have now staked their claim on the entire party, its name and election symbol. A delegation of rebel leaders led by Ritabrata Banerjee met the Election Commission on Tuesday and described itself as the “real TMC” Handed over 11 pages of documents and alleged evidence stating.

The delegation informed the Chief Electoral Officer that changes have been made in the organizational structure of the party and a new National Executive has been formed. Besides, the list of new officials has also been submitted to the Commission.

Information about new office given to Election Commission

The rebel group told the Election Commission that the new office of the party has currently been built in a building located on Rajdanga Main Road, Kolkata. However, Ritabrata Banerjee clarified that this is a temporary arrangement and the search for a new place for the permanent headquarters is going on. He said that the process of construction of the new headquarters will be started as soon as a suitable place is found.

Claim of new national executive

Rebel leaders said that after the special session, the National Executive has made new appointments on many important posts including Acting President, General Secretary and Treasurer. The names of all these officials have also been submitted to the Election Commission. The document also mentions that if any irregularity is found in the financial affairs of the party, it will be investigated by an independent auditor.

‘It was just a formal process’

After meeting the Election Commission, Ritabrata Banerjee said that it is a regular process to inform the Commission about the decisions taken in the special session and the formation of the National Executive. He said that the party’s new organizational structure and leadership decisions have been informed to the Election Commission at Delhi and state levels.

Mamta group counterattacked

Reacting to this entire incident, Mamata Banerjee faction leader Kunal Ghosh rejected the claim of the rebel leaders. He said that the signatures of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are present on Form-A and Form-B submitted along with the nomination papers of the MLAs who had contested on TMC tickets in the assembly elections.

Kunal Ghosh said that on the basis of those signatures these leaders became MLAs and now they are trying to call themselves the real TMC. He said that the public is watching everything and will also respond when the time comes.

BJP also targeted

Amidst this political controversy, BJP has also taken a dig at TMC. BJP leader Shishir Bajoria said that the people of West Bengal have given a clear mandate in the elections and now the existence of TMC seems to be in crisis.

He claimed that the party which was in power for a long time is now struggling with internal strife and its organization seems to be disintegrating soon. Bajoria said that the public has given its verdict and now the internal divisions within TMC are coming to the fore. Meanwhile, during the entire incident, there was also talk of Abhishek Banerjee reaching Mamata Banerjee’s residence to meet her, which has further intensified political speculations regarding the ongoing crisis within the party.
