Indian Mango Export: ‘Banganapalli’ reaches Singapore. Consignment of 5 tonnes reached by sea, farmers got double the price.
Delhi. India has achieved a major historic success in promoting the export of fresh fruits. Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), functioning under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow, has successfully dispatched the first commercial sea shipment of ‘Banganapalli’ mangoes to Singapore.
A consignment of 5 tonnes had left on June 11.
According to a government release, this five tonne consignment of this extremely juicy and sweet mango variety Banganapalli from Andhra Pradesh had left from India on June 11, which successfully reached Singapore on June 24.
This successful effort is proving to be an important milestone towards promoting low-cost and sustainable export arrangements for Indian horticultural products as well as increasing the market access of Indian mangoes abroad.
Singapore importer praises ‘excellent’ quality
These mangoes were brought from certified orchards in Andhra Pradesh, processed and packed at an APEDA approved center in Karnataka. The entire process was completed in accordance with Singapore’s strict quality and phytosanitary standards.
The Singapore importer ‘EC-Links Pte Ltd’ described the quality of the fruits as excellent upon arrival. He highly appreciated the tremendous sweetness, uniform ripening process, long shelf life and good condition of Indian mangoes. This shipment successfully met all the import conditions, demonstrating the effectiveness of scientific handling and cold chain management during sea transportation.
Farmers got double profit
Indian farmers have got huge economic benefits from this export. While the price of Banganapalli variety of mango in the domestic market was only between Rs 25 to Rs 26 per kg, farmers got a price of around Rs 50 per kg from this foreign export consignment. Due to this, the income of farmers almost doubled and there was a huge increase in their profits.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that this successful export has made it abundantly clear that sea route is a very economical and practical mode of transportation of fresh fruits as compared to air route. It is noteworthy that Banganapalli mango is one of the most popular varieties of India, which is known for its golden yellow color, pleasant aroma, fiberless pulp and extreme sweetness. It is in huge demand in international markets. This success of Singapore is expected to further strengthen India’s reputation as a reliable supplier of high quality agricultural products in the global market.
