Defense Ministry’s clarification regarding the soldiers martyred during ‘Operation Sindoor’, said- an attempt to misrepresent the speech of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

New Delhi, June 27. Amid opposition attack on Defense Minister Rajnath Singh over the delay in making public the names of soldiers martyred during ‘Operation Sindoor’, the Defense Ministry on Saturday issued a statement, clarifying Rajnath Singh’s speech in Parliament in July last year.

In a detailed statement, the ministry said, “Certain posts circulating on social media platforms attempt to misrepresent the Defense Minister’s speech in Parliament on July 28, 2025. These posts selectively quote a part of the speech to falsely refute the claim that the Defense Minister claimed that no Indian soldier was killed during ‘Operation Sindoor’. These are deliberately misleading and factually incorrect.”

The ministry said, “Those who have tried to create controversy over the Defense Minister’s parliamentary speech have deliberately ignored the full context of his words. It must be remembered that at the time of the Defense Minister’s speech, there was a particularly persistent and dominant narrative running in sections of the media and on social media, which claimed that Indian pilots were killed during ‘Operation Sindoor’.”

According to the Defense Ministry, this story was completely false, yet it was being spread with the clear intention of undermining the success of the operation and weakening the sentiments of the people. It further said, ‘The Defense Minister had given this statement in direct reference to this particular and mischievous story. Therefore, his words were a targeted and context-specific response to the lies that were dangerously spreading at the time.

It was also necessary to put the Defense Minister’s speech in its full and correct context.

“It was also important to put the Defense Minister’s speech in its full and true context. His statement in Parliament was, in its entirety, a proud and accurate account of the spectacular success of ‘Operation Sindoor’, an operation in which the Indian Defense Forces demonstrated unmatched precision, intent and military professionalism,” the ministry said.

during operation 100 More than 100 terrorists and Pakistani soldiers were killed

Bayana said, ‘More than 100 terrorists and Pakistani soldiers were killed during the operation. Besides, Pakistani air bases and deployments on the Line of Control also suffered huge losses. This speech was a fitting tribute to the courage and capability of the Indian Defense Forces, and a clear message to those who wish to harm India.’

The ministry said, ‘The Defense Minister and the Government of India stand firm in their respect, gratitude and reverence for every member of the Indian Defense Forces and, above all, for those who have laid down their lives in the defense of the country. Their sacrifice is the greatest service to the motherland, and it will always be honored with the respect, pride and seriousness it deserves.’

The statement further said, ‘It is in recognition of their supreme sacrifice that the government has ensured that their names are inscribed on the walls of the National War Memorial. The government has taken all necessary steps to provide relaxation in education, health and other facilities to the families/dependents of the bravehearts.

First of all 11 May2025 Tribute was paid to the brave soldiers

In a separate statement, the Defense Ministry made it clear that the country paid tribute to these martyrs ‘as soon as possible, much before those reports’. It said that during the official press conference held on May 11, 2025, the then Director General of Military Operations paid true tribute to these brave soldiers and especially acknowledged their sacrifice in the line of duty during ‘Operation Sindoor’.

These brave men were given gallantry awards

The statement said, ‘Gallantry awards were given to these brave men and this was published in the press release dated August 14, 2025. It was a formal and national recognition of their bravery and supreme sacrifice in keeping with the highest traditions of the Indian Defense Forces. Also, without any delay, tributes were paid to these brave men on the official social media platforms of the Indian Army.

The Defense Ministry said, ‘The recognition of these brave martyrs has continued even after that. The Army Chief had presented the Sena Medal (Gallantry) to the families of these three brave soldiers during the Army Day Parade held in Jaipur on January 15, 2026, while the Air Chief had done the same in a special ceremony on October 08, 2025, thereby reaffirming the Defense Forces’ steadfast commitment to honor those who laid down their lives in the service of the country.

Regarding inscribing the names of martyred soldiers on the National War Memorial, it is emphasized that this sacred process takes place under a set and well-defined protocol. The Defense Forces follow these prescribed procedures with the utmost diligence, care and respect commensurate with the seriousness of the honor being conferred. To say that the correct process was not followed is actually wrong.

Appeal to exercise restraint while reporting matters related to martyred soldiers

The ministry said, ‘It is regrettable that such a debate has erupted on this issue, which could have been avoided and which has no basis. Such statements not only misrepresent the facts but also risk causing unnecessary grief to the families of martyred soldiers and tarnishing the honor of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the country. All concerned are appealed to exercise responsibility and restraint while reporting matters related to martyred soldiers and not to spread unverified information.

“The Indian Defense Forces stand firm in its resolve to honor every soldier who has made the supreme sacrifice in defense of the nation. The six brave soldiers of ‘Operation Sindoor’ are national heroes, whose courage, devotion to duty and sacrifice will continue to inspire generations of Indians. Their memory will always be honored with the dignity, gratitude and reverence they deserve,” the statement said.

The ministry’s clarification came a day after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh revealed the names of six soldiers martyred during ‘Operation Sindoor’. ‘Operation Sindoor’ was an operation by the Indian Armed Forces in response to the Pahalgam attack. The move was strongly criticized by the opposition which accused the Defense Minister of hiding the martyrdom of soldiers and lying to the people.
