Truck driver ran away after crushing an 11 year old girl, caught by police after chasing him for 2 hours and 60 km
Raipur: A tragic road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district led to a high-voltage chase of about 60 kilometers between the police and a truck driver. During this time, the driver kept trying to escape by dodging the police, but finally the police arrested him near the Maharashtra border. The video of the incident is also becoming increasingly viral on social media.
According to the police, the accident took place in Gundardehi village of Ambagarh Chowki police station area. Here 11 year old Poonam died on the spot after being hit by a speeding truck. After the accident, instead of stopping the vehicle, the driver fled from the spot at high speed.
An attempt was made to stop the truck by placing barricades
As soon as information about the incident was received, the police alerted the surrounding police station areas and tried to stop the truck by placing barricades at many places. However, the accused driver ignored the police warning, broke the barricade and continued moving ahead. During this, he also hit another truck and tried to avoid police action at many places.
During this time the police continued the chase. An attempt was also made to stop the truck in Manpur area, but the driver ran away from there too. During the chase, some policemen narrowly escaped being hit by a truck.
Driver detained for two hours
This operation, which lasted for about two hours, ended near Korkoti village, about six kilometers from the Maharashtra border. Here the truck suddenly went out of control and fell off the road. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the police took the driver into custody. The driver was also injured in the accident, who was sent to the hospital for treatment. Police say that in the preliminary investigation it is suspected that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
Further investigation continues regarding the matter
On the other hand, after the accident, there was huge anger among the people in Gundardehi village. The villagers protested for about two hours by keeping the girl’s body on the road and demanded strict action against the accused. The protest ended after senior officials reached the spot and assured action. Police have registered a case against the accused and seized the truck and further investigation is underway.
