Six terrorists killed

The terrorists initially detonated the blasts, causing panic among the citizens. The assailants then stormed the headquarters of Sindh Rangers after opening fire. A fierce encounter took place between the security forces and the terrorists, which lasted for about 90 minutes. During this time, security forces had cordoned off the entire area and surrounding roads. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack. This organization is a militant wing of TTP and is mainly active in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The organization has been carrying out attacks against civilians, security forces and government officials.

Rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan

The attack has taken place at a time of heightened tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan’s military and intelligence agencies have repeatedly accused the Taliban government in Afghanistan of providing safe haven to the TTP and aiding cross-border attacks. In response, the Pakistan Army has also launched operations against alleged hideouts and training camps of the TTP located within the borders of Afghanistan. Interestingly, this is the first major terrorist attack in Karachi since October 2024.
