SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav meets Lalita Gautam’s family, assures full support
Meerut: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday met the family members of Lalita Gautam, a Dalit student whose murder in Meerut has triggered outrage across Uttar Pradesh.
He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that the Samajwadi Party would stand by them until they receive justice.

During the meeting, Akhilesh Yadav heard the family’s concerns and said every demand raised by them should be addressed by the state government. He urged the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure a fair investigation and strict action against everyone involved in the crime.
“The victim’s family must get justice. The government should fulfill every demand of the family and ensure that the guilty should be punished under the law,” he said.
What is the Lalita Gautam murder case?
Lalita Gautam, a college student from Meerut, had gone missing while leaving home to appear for an examination. After a search, her body was recovered from a field on the outskirts of the city. The incident shocked local residents and led to widespread anger.

Police registered a murder case and arrested the main accused during the investigation. Another person was also taken into custody for allegedly helping destroy evidence. The investigation is still underway, and police have said they are examining all aspects of the case to identify anyone else involved.

The victim’s family has demanded the strictest possible punishment for the accused and has sought a speedy trial.
Protests and political attention
The murder sparked protests by local residents and several social organizations, who demanded immediate justice for Lalita. Demonstrations were held in different parts of Meerut, with protesters calling for swift legal action against the accused.

The case has also become a political issue, with opposition parties accusing the state government of failing to provide security to women and members of the Dalit community. The Uttar Pradesh government, however, has maintained that the investigation is being conducted fairly and that no guilty person will be spared.
With Akhilesh Yadav’s visit, the case has once again come into political focus, while the victim’s family continues to demand speedy justice and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
