Russia Oil Import: In June, India bought a record 4.5 billion euros worth of crude oil from Russia, becoming the second largest buyer after China.

New Delhi. India imported crude oil from Russia at a record level in June 2026. According to the latest report by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), India bought crude oil worth 4.5 billion euros from Russia in June, which is 34 percent more than the previous month. However, due to the fall in crude oil prices in the international market, Russia’s income from oil exports declined.

Crude oil accounts for 83% of fossil fuels imported from Russia.

According to the report, in June India imported fossil fuel worth a total of 5.5 billion euros from Russia. This included crude oil worth 4.5 billion euros, petroleum products worth 488 million euros and coal worth 444 million euros. In this way, 83 percent of the total imports were of crude oil only.

India becomes the second largest buyer after China

According to the report, China was the largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels in June with imports of 7.3 billion euros, while India came in second place with imports of 5.5 billion euros.

Russian oil supply increased in Indian refineries

During June, there was a significant increase in the supply of crude oil coming from Russia to Indian refineries.

  • Supply at Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery increased by 150%.

  • Indian Oil Corporation (IOC)’s Paradip Refinery surged 126%.

  • Bharat Petroleum (BPCL)’s supplies at its Kochi refinery increased by 83%.

  • Nayara Energy’s Vadinar Refinery recorded a growth of 45%.

Russia’s exports increased, but income decreased

According to CREA, Russia’s crude oil export volume in June due to increased purchases by India increased by 14 percent. Despite this, due to softening global prices, Russia’s daily export earnings from crude oil declined by 8 percent to 348 million euros.

At the same time, the amount of Russia’s total fossil fuel exports grew 7 percent, but daily revenue declined 1 percent to 734 million euros.

India plays an important role in the trade of fuel made from Russian crude oil.

The report said that India is also playing an important role in the global trade of refined petroleum products prepared from Russian crude oil.

In June, refineries in India, Turkey, Brunei and Georgia exported petroleum products worth 814 million euros to countries that have imposed sanctions on Russia such as the European Union, the United States and Australia. Of these, approximately Products worth 369 million euros were produced from Russian crude oil.

Indian refined fuel reaches Europe and Britain

According to the report, two consignments of Russian crude oil sent from Indian refineries were landed at European ports in June despite sanctions by the European Union.

Apart from this, Britain also received the first consignment of jet fuel made from Russian crude from Reliance’s Jamnagar refinery in June. This import became possible under the special provision given by the British Government.
