Archery World Cup: Dheeraj and Kirti lost, bronze medal slipped from their hands

India has suffered another disappointment in Stage-4 of the Archery World Cup. The Indian recurve mixed pair of Dheeraj Bommadevara and Kirti Sharma have missed out on bronze. The pair of Dheeraj and Kirti could not take advantage of their 3-1 lead against Italy and lost 3-5, causing the bronze to slip away from them.

This World Cup was disappointing for Antalya World Cup champion Dheeraj. She had won the recurve mixed team gold medal with Kumkum Mohd in the third stage last month but will have to return empty handed from Madrid. India’s hopes in the recurve event now rest entirely on Kirti, who will compete in the individual semi-finals. If she wins this match, 19 year old Kirti will be successful in winning her first medal in the World Cup. Kirti made her World Cup debut in Antalya last month.

The Italian pair won the third set 39-37 and leveled the match at 3-3. Even in the fourth and deciding set, the Indian team could not perform well, while the Italian team scored four ‘perfect 10’ and won 40-37 and won the bronze medal.
