Target of 70 lakh saplings in Delhi, CM Rekha Gupta planted saplings!

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday took part in the ambitious campaign to plant 70 lakh saplings by planting a sapling in the Model Town area as part of the ongoing massive plantation drive in the city. The aim of this campaign is to increase the scope of greenery in the national capital.

The purpose of this tree plantation campaign going on in different parts of Delhi is to promote environmental protection with the active participation of people. The campaign was launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 7 and government departments, civic organizations, resident welfare associations and common citizens have participated in it.

After planting the sapling, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the Delhi government is running a plantation program across the city under the ‘Mass Plantation Drive’ and is encouraging people to actively participate in this initiative.

He said, “Under the mass plantation drive, tree plantation programs are being carried out continuously across Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had launched this campaign on July 7. The Delhi government appealed to the people to participate through a special portal, where people could choose the time to participate in the tree plantation drive. After this, citizens went to the designated places and actively participated in planting trees.”

The Chief Minister said that the aim of this initiative is to make tree plantation a mass movement by giving citizens an opportunity to directly contribute to environmental protection. The government has facilitated people’s participation by allowing them to register through an online portal and choose the time as per their convenience for tree planting activities at designated locations across the city.

This campaign to plant 70 lakh saplings is part of Delhi’s broader efforts to improve air quality, increase greenery and promote environmental sustainability. Officials said that with the help of different government organizations and volunteers, saplings are being planted in parks, campuses of institutions, roadside green belts and other identified places.

The campaign has also received support from local communities and Resident Welfare Associations, and a large number of citizens are helping to meet the plantation target.

Earlier on Sunday, New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairman Kuljit Singh Chahal led a large-scale plantation drive in Gol Market under the name ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. Chahal said that the aim of this campaign is to turn environmental protection into a people’s movement through public participation.

During the event, Chahal also interacted with Resident Welfare Association officials and local residents under the ‘Good Governance at Your Doorstep’ initiative. He heard the complaints of citizens related to civic amenities and directed the officials to ensure their resolution quickly and within the stipulated time frame.
