Delhi riots: Former AAP leader Tahir Hussain found guilty in IB officer murder case
A Delhi court on Monday convicted former Aam Aadmi Party leader Tahir Hussain in the murder of Intelligence Bureau officer Ankit Sharma. Along with Tahir Hussain, four others Nazim, Kazim, Javed and Anas have also been convicted under rioting sections.
Tahir Hussain was suspended by the Aam Aadmi Party after his name cropped up in the Delhi riots. Let us tell you that during the riots in North-East Delhi in the year 2020, there was a sensational murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma. Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh was hearing the case of a total of 11 accused, including Tahir Hussain, and convicted five of them.

Guilty of what charges?
The court found Tahir Hussain guilty on charges of spreading enmity, rioting, assault, use of criminal force and murder. This case is related to the FIR lodged in Dayalpur police station on the complaint of Ankit Kumar’s father Ravindra Kumar.
Ravindra Kumar had told the situation
According to Ravindra Kumar, Ankit Sharma, posted in IB, had returned home from office on February 25, 2020 and then went out. According to the complainant, when Ankit did not return for a long time, the family members started searching for him. According to Ravindra Kumar, then the local people told him that his son had been murdered and his body was thrown in the Khajuri Khas drain near a mosque in Chand Bagh Pulia area. Later the body of Ankit Sharma was recovered from the drain.

Ankit’s dead body was disposed of
In his complaint, Ravindra Kumar alleged that his son was murdered by then AAP councilor Tahir Hussain and others. The complaint states that these people had allegedly gathered in Hussain’s office and disposed of Ankit’s body after the murder. Tahir Hussain was suspended by the Aam Aadmi Party after his name came up in this case.
Earlier, on March 24, 2023, a Delhi court had framed charges against Tahir Hussain and 10 others. The other accused are Haseen alias Mullaji alias Salman, Nazim, Qasim, Sameer Khan, Anas, Firoz, Javed, Gulfam, Shoaib Alam alias Bobby and Muntajim alias Musa.
53 people died in Delhi riots
The accused were charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code that relate to rioting, rioting with deadly weapons, promoting enmity between groups, murder and criminal conspiracy. Tahir Hussain was additionally charged with inciting people and making statements that created public unrest. 53 people were killed and many others were injured in the Delhi riots.
