New Delhi. There may be news of big relief for LPG consumers across the country in the coming times. The central government and public sector oil companies are preparing to make 10 kg lightweight composite LPG cylinders available on a large scale, keeping in mind the needs of small businessmen and customers with limited gas consumption. If this scheme gets final approval, it can prove to be very useful for street food vendors, small shopkeepers, students, people living in rented houses and migrant labourers.
New initiative considering the needs of small businessmen
Currently, 19 kg LPG cylinder is most commonly used for commercial use. However, due to its heavy weight, it is not easy to lift it and carry it from one place to another. Small hotels, tea shops, fast food stalls, carts and businesses with limited gas usage have been demanding lighter alternatives for a long time. Keeping this need in mind, oil companies are preparing to launch 10 kg composite cylinders for commercial use.
Light and safe cylinder will be made with modern technology
The proposed 10 kg composite cylinder will be manufactured with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) based advanced technology. It is considered to be about 50 percent lighter than traditional steel cylinders. Due to its low weight, it will be very convenient to carry on stairs, keep in small shops and for everyday use.
Another special feature of this cylinder is its semi-transparent exterior, through which it can be easily seen without any additional equipment how much gas is left in the cylinder. This will also make it easier to refill on time.
Already available for home use
Oil companies are already making lightweight composite cylinders available to domestic customers on a limited scale. Different companies are selling them under their own brand names. Now a plan is being made to deliver these cylinders to commercial customers, so that small businesses can also get modern and convenient options.
What could be the price?
At present, the official price of 10 kg commercial composite cylinder has not been decided. It is believed that its price can be kept between 5 kg and 19 kg commercial cylinders. The final price will be decided only after the scheme is approved and the pricing process of the companies goes through.
