Mayor Pravesh Wahi flags off 135 electric sanitation vehicles
- Door-to-door garbage collection system will be more effective, environmental protection will get a boost
New Delhi. Taking a big step towards making the sanitation system of Delhi Municipal Corporation modern and more effective, Mayor Parvesh Wahi flagged off 135 electric sanitation vehicles and included them in the sanitation fleet of the corporation in a program organized in Rohini Sector-10 on Saturday. Of these, 46 vehicles will be deployed in Rohini area, while the remaining vehicles will strengthen sanitation services in Narela, Civil Lines and Keshavpuram areas.
On this occasion, councilor Narendra Kumar Singh, Dharamveer Sharma, Smita Kaushik, Poonam Saini, Rohini area Deputy Commissioner Anshul Sirohi and senior officers and employees of the corporation were present.
Mayor Pravesh Wahi said that this is an important initiative towards realizing the new electric vehicle policy of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the resolve of clean and green Delhi. He said that the inclusion of electric sanitation vehicles will make the door-to-door garbage collection system more effective, save fuel and also promote environmental protection.
He said that Delhi Municipal Corporation is working in mission mode to make the capital clean, green and beautiful and modern sanitation resources are being expanded in all areas in a planned manner.
The Mayor said that under the new rules of solid waste management, it is necessary to separate the waste into four categories. If wet waste is disposed of at source and waste segregation is ensured, the amount of waste going to landfill sites can be significantly reduced.
Appealing to the people of Delhi to actively participate in the cleanliness campaign, he said that making Delhi clean, green and beautiful is not only the municipal corporation’s but also the shared responsibility of every citizen.
