New political conflict in Kashmir: Mehbooba Mufti gives a big blow to Omar Abdullah’s Delhi movement, puts two strict conditions
At this time, a huge ideological and strategic turn has come in the regional politics of Jammu and Kashmir. People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has given a big blow to the ‘Delhi Chalo’ movement being organized in New Delhi by the ruling National Conference (NC) to demand full statehood for the Union Territory. Issuing an official statement on Saturday, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has made it clear that her party will join the protest only if Chief Minister Omar Abdullah includes some other mandatory and strict demands related to the basic issues of Jammu and Kashmir in the main agenda of this movement. Asking only for statehood is a betrayal of the people: Mehbooba Mufti has written a letter to Farooq Abdullah. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has sent a formal letter to National Conference President Farooq Abdullah informing him about her conditions. While talking to the media, he said in a very harsh tone that if the movement remains limited only to restoration of full statehood, it will send a wrong message that we have accepted the decision taken by the Central Government on August 5, 2019. Mehbooba stressed that the people of the state did not give the National Conference an overwhelming majority just to get back statehood; Therefore, the demand for restoration of historical Article 370, unconditional release of local political prisoners lodged in jails and lifting of ban on socio-political organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami should be immediately added to the agenda. Advocacy of calling an all-party meeting on the lines of Ladakh: The solution to Kashmir will come only through collective leadership. Mehbooba Mufti has expressed deep disappointment over the National Conference announcing such a unilateral movement without any prior consultation. He suggested that like the political leadership of Ladakh, all the small and big political parties of Jammu and Kashmir should forget their mutual differences and come on one platform. For this, first of all a comprehensive all-party meeting should be called, in which not only heads of political parties but also representatives of civil society should participate. He said that an honest and meaningful political process can begin only when all the leaders put forward their demands to the Central Government in one voice to resolve the basic and inhuman conditions. Preparations for a show of strength on March 20 at Jantar Mantar: BJP furious over the invitation to Mirwaiz. Let it be known that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is in power in Jammu and Kashmir, has prepared a plan for a massive protest and demonstration at the historic Jantar Mantar of the country’s capital Delhi on March 20, 2026. Omar Abdullah alleges that the central government is testing his patience and is continuously postponing the promise of giving full statehood. To make this national movement successful, the Chief Minister has sent a formal invitation to all the opposition leaders of the country as well as Kashmir’s prominent religious and separatist leader Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, after which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given a sharp reaction and has seriously accused Omar Abdullah of promoting separatism again and has strongly opposed this entire exercise.
