Surveillance from Highways to Sensitive Areas
Security agencies are continuously checking vehicles and people entering and leaving Jammu and Kashmir. In Ramban, the CRPF conducted security checks on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Meanwhile, the Kulgam police intensified vehicle checking and identity card verification on NH-44. Security forces have also been put on alert in areas along the border. According to officials, sensitive locations are being continuously monitored.
No Protests Permitted
The administration has not permitted protests or rallies in several locations. Security agencies have been instructed to maintain law and order and prevent any potential disruptions. Security has also been increased at major markets, public places, and vital installations.
Article 370 was repealed in 2019
On August 5, 2019, the central government abolished most of the provisions of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The then state was divided into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
At that time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced a resolution in the Rajya Sabha to repeal Article 370. The government described it as a major step towards the development of Jammu and Kashmir and its complete integration with the country.
Development and Statehood in Discussion
BJP MP Ghulam Ali Khatana claimed an increase in tourism and development activities in Jammu and Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370. He said that people’s confidence in the region has increased and changes have been seen in many areas.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey demanded the early granting of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said that statehood could further accelerate the pace of development in the region. On the occasion of the seventh anniversary, security agencies are keeping a close watch on the situation and the main focus of the administration is on maintaining peace and law and order.
