A young woman and an elderly man died in two separate incidents of snakebite in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh. Both of them lost their lives during treatment at the Medical College Hospital, after which the police started investigating the case.
Bahraich: A 19-year-old girl and a 60-year-old man died in two separate incidents of Bahraich snake bite. Both of them were brought in critical condition first to the Community Health Center and then to the Medical College Hospital, where they died during treatment. On the information of the hospital, the police has started investigation in both the cases.
Incidents of snakebite occurred in different villages
Two separate incidents of snakebite in Bahraich district have raised concern in the area. The first incident took place in Durgapur village of Rupaidiha police station area, where 19-year-old Sudama Devi had gone to sweep the room of her house on Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the snake hidden in the room bit his leg. The family members immediately took him to the Community Health Center (CHC) Charada, where after first aid, in view of his serious condition, he was referred to the Medical College Hospital. On reaching the hospital, doctors declared him dead.
The old man also died during treatment
The second incident took place in Bharosepurwa village of Visheshwarganj police station area. Here 60 year old Mohammad Kalim was sleeping in his house at night when he was bitten by a snake. The family first took him to the nearest CHC, from where he was sent to the Medical College Hospital for better treatment. He also died in the afternoon during treatment in the hospital.
Police started investigation
In both the cases, the Medical College Hospital administration informed the police. After receiving the information, the police reached the spot and started the necessary legal process. According to officials, the circumstances of both the deaths are being investigated and further action will be taken as per rules.
Risk of snakebite increases during rainy season
The incidence of snakes coming out in fields and residential areas increases during the rainy season. Experts say that if a person is bitten by a snake, he should be taken to the nearest hospital without any delay. Seeking medical help immediately instead of relying on exorcism or home remedies increases the patient’s chances of survival. The health department also appeals to people to remain alert and maintain cleanliness around their homes.
