CJP Protest: Kiran Bedi’s suggestion on students’ protest, told solution to PM Modi and Amit Shah
Tezzbuzz Desk – Amid the ongoing student agitation over the NEET paper leak, India’s first female IPS officer and former Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, has suggested a different model to the central government to deal with the protest. In two consecutive posts on social media platform X, he tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and suggested measures to prevent conflict between students and police.
‘Deploy civil defense on the first line’
Kiran Bedi suggested that trained civil defense volunteers be deployed at the forefront during the demonstration. He compared it to the deployment of BSF on the borders, saying that civil defense can act as the first line of defense while riot police can be kept on standby at some distance and sent forward only when needed.
He said that civil defense system already exists in all the states of the country, which can be prepared to perform such responsibilities by giving additional training.
‘Confrontation between students and police can be avoided’
The former IPS officer believes that with this arrangement, direct confrontation between the protesting students and the police can be prevented to a great extent. He said that both male and female volunteers should be included in civil defence, while the riot police should stay behind and keep an eye on the situation.
According to him, riot police should intervene only if civil defense personnel are attacked or their safety is in danger.
Advice to provide protective equipment to Civil Defense
Kiran Bedi said that civil defense soldiers Shield, Body Armor and Helmet Such protective equipment should be provided, so that they can protect themselves from stone pelting or other attacks. However, he clarified that they should not have sticks.
He says that this will also put the responsibility on the protesters not to do any such violent act which would force the police to come forward to use force.
Kiran Bedi said in her post that armed or riot police should be used only when there is a real threat to the safety of people’s life and property. According to him, if civil defense remains in the first line, it will also become an impartial witness to the incidents and the situation of allegations and counter-allegations later can also be reduced to a great extent.
