New rule for vehicle transfer,! Aadhaar linking now mandatory for vehicle transfer and NOC, know the new rule

Important news has come out for vehicle owners. There has been a major change in the process of vehicle transfer across the country and obtaining NOC required to move a vehicle to another state. Under the new system, it is now mandatory for vehicle owners to link their Aadhaar card on the transport portal. Implementation of this revised rule has started from 15 July 2026 across the country including Gujarat. The government claims that this new process will enhance the security of vehicle owners and help prevent incidents of unauthorized vehicle transfers.
Online transfer will happen only after Aadhaar linking
Under the new process, a person applying for change of vehicle ownership will first have to enter their Aadhaar card details on the transport portal. There will be a complete match between the information contained in the Aadhaar card and the vehicle record details available on the portal. If the details of both the records match then the online process of vehicle ownership transfer can proceed.
The main purpose of this new regulation is to make identification of vehicle ownership more secure. Until now, there was a possibility of vehicle transfer based on wrong information or documents in some situations. Now Aadhaar based verification will make it easier to confirm the owner’s identity. This arrangement can be particularly useful in cases where the vehicle is being transferred to another person’s name or is being moved to another state.
What if Aadhaar and Portal details do not match?
If there is any discrepancy between the applicant’s Aadhaar card and the details on the transport portal, the online process will not be completed directly. In such a case, the applicant has to enter his driving license details and proceed with the process. In this way the applicant’s identity will be verified through other identity documents available in the system.
However, if there is a discrepancy in the vehicle’s RC book and driving license details as well, the matter can become more serious. In such case the applicant has to appear in person at the concerned RTO office with necessary supporting evidence. The process of vehicle transfer or NOC will be completed only after verification of documents by officials. That is, if the information in the documents does not match, the online process may be halted and a visit to the RTO office may be required.
Aadhaar verification is also required for NOC
This new rule is not limited to transfer of vehicle ownership. If a vehicle owner wants to take his vehicle to another state and needs to obtain NOC, Aadhaar based verification will be important in this process as well. The application process will proceed only after linking the Aadhaar details on the transport portal.
The government believes that the new online Aadhaar verification system can make the vehicle transfer process faster and more transparent. Proper identity verification can protect vehicle owners from future fraud. Apart from this, it will also help in preventing vehicle transfer or other types of unauthorized operations based on false identification.
What should vehicle owners be aware of?
After the implementation of the new rules, vehicle owners may need to check whether the details in their Aadhaar card, driving license and RC book are the same or not. Any discrepancy in name, address or other important details may delay the vehicle transfer or processing of NOC.
This revised system has come into effect from 15 July 2026 across the country including Gujarat. So people who are planning to sell, buy, transfer ownership or take the vehicle to another state in the near future. They have to keep in mind the new Aadhaar verification process. The government claims that this move will bring more security and transparency in the transport system.
