Loved ones are often insulted? Remove the emotion and answer in the next 10 seconds in this way
Whether at work or at home, there are people who have never been humiliated. If the person on the other side makes an unsolicited insulting comment, it is normal to get heated in response. Should want to reply back. If it is not given, this anger starts to accumulate in the mind. But even if the answer is settled insult? It often lasts for a long time with pain.
Way to survive? In the next 10 seconds. And this is what psychologists say.
Chanakya wrote in ‘Arthashastra’ that a man who cannot control his anger is never worthy of responsibility. A person who immediately gets angry in response to an insult unknowingly hands the power over to the insulter. Intelligent people do not get angry suddenly in response to insults. Instead use the next 10 seconds. The behavior of those few moments will determine the future.
Understand the insult before reacting
Not all insults are the same. Some people deliberately provoke, just to see your reaction. Some have a tendency to speak harshly. Many people throw their frustration and anger at others.
First ask yourself –
• That said, does his opinion really matter?
• Where is it said? A public insult in an office meeting does not have the same effect as a personal insult.
• Is there truth in the statement? This is the most uncomfortable question, so most people avoid it.

Name the feeling
According to Stanford University psychologist James Gross, naming your feelings reduces their intensity. This process is called affect labeling. No one else has to tell you, decide for yourself what level of feeling you feel as a result of the insult. Feeling bad, angry or unprepared?
Suppressing feelings creates pressure inside. But if you try to understand it gradually comes under control. The person in front of you cannot see this internal process. Just by looking at it, you didn’t break down even after being insulted. This steadiness is often taken as a sign of confidence in professional and social settings.
A sharp reply may bring a momentary victory. But a moderate response creates a lasting positive impression of you in people’s minds.
