India will keep an eye on these star players
This time India’s challenge will be led by many great Olympic and world level players. These include big names like Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra (javelin throw), Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) and Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain (boxing).
India got a big shock
However, before the Games, the Indian weightlifting team has suffered a major setback. India’s weightlifting quota was reduced due to doping violations during the qualification period, which may impact India’s medal chances in the sport.
smallest commonwealth games
At Birmingham 2022, India finished fourth by winning a total of 61 medals including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze. But the format of Glasgow 2026 has changed a lot. This time only 10 sports and 215 medal events are being organised, making it the smallest Commonwealth Games since 1994.
Many big games took place outside
Organizers have limited the scope of the competition in order to reduce costs and utilize existing infrastructure. Its biggest impact has been on India because sports like badminton, hockey, wrestling, table tennis and shooting are not part of the program this time. These are the sports in which India has traditionally won the most medals.

Among the strongest sports powers
Although the scope of competition has become smaller, India is still among the strongest sporting powers at the Commonwealth Games. Indian players have reached Glasgow with the aim of winning maximum medals for the country by performing brilliantly even in limited sports.
