Fake medicines network spread from Lucknow to Dehradun destroyed, fake medicines worth Rs 1 crore seized

Lucknow, Read: There has been great success in the campaign against fake medicines under the “Zero Tolerance” policy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The investigation, which started with the recovery of fake medicines in Aminabad, Lucknow, exposed an illegal medicine manufacturing factory operating in Dehradun.

Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) Uttar Pradesh, in a joint action with Crime Branch Ghaziabad and Uttarakhand FSDA, has recovered counterfeit medicines, packaging material and modern machinery worth about Rs 1 crore. Two accused have been arrested in the action, while the search for other gang members is on.

The case began with a case registered on July 19 in Aminabad, where 43 types of suspected drugs were recovered. During investigation, the sample of “Flogen AA” tablet was found to be fake. After this, FSDA formed a special enforcement team and started investigating mobile data, WhatsApp chats, packaging patterns and supply chain. The investigation revealed the name of Ghaziabad resident Rajendra Singh alias Arun Tunda as the main supplier, who was arrested on July 22.

In the digital forensic investigation of the mobile phone of the arrested accused, documents and chats related to the packaging, machines and manufacturing of fake medicines were found. On the basis of this evidence, the factory located at Devipur New Highway Road, East Hopetown, Dehradun was detected. The joint team raided there and recovered Alu-Alu packing machine, strip machine, inkjet printer, compressor, large quantity of semi-finished tablets, capsules, printed aluminum foil, wrappers and master cartons. Investigation revealed that preparations were being made to prepare fake medicines in the name of famous companies without license and send them to the market.

During the raid, counterfeit packing materials of many popular drug brands including Clavactam 625 and Razo-D were recovered. Apart from this, master cartons and packaging material printed in the names of Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s, Intos, Lupin and other companies were also found. Gaurav Tyagi, Rajendra Singh alias Arun Tunda, Vipin Bhatnagar and Vinay Chand have been named in this case. Rajendra Singh and Vinay Chand have been arrested. A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), including section 111 relating to organized crime.

FSDA Commissioner Dr. Roshan Jacob said that the campaign against fake medicines in the state will not be limited to seizure only. Action will continue to destroy the entire network of manufacturing, supply and sales and those playing with public health will not be spared at any cost.
